He has worked in a wide range of roles with varied responsibilities with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities and with government and non-government organisations of all persuasions. That experience has been at local, regional, state and national levels. Since 2006 his focus has been on WA’s Aboriginal environmental health sector. He is determined to serve the sector, to make a difference, develop strong positive partnerships and build capacity.

Main Presenter Biography Vicki O’Donnell OAM Vicki is a Nyikina Mangala Aboriginal woman from Derby, who has worked as a Strategic Leader in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health for 17 years. Vicki is Chairperson of the Aboriginal Health Council of Western Australia, CEO of Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Service (KAMS), and Chairperson of the WA Aboriginal Health Ethics Committee. She is an advisor on numerous State and Federal Ministerial Committees involved in Aboriginal health issues including representing WA on the Closing the Gap Coalition of Peaks and the WA Aboriginal Advisory Committee. Vicki has a passion for Aboriginal Health and has gained enormous respect for her knowledge, attention to detail, and communication skills at a grass roots level.

Main Presenter Biography Paris O’Rourke is currently studying a Master of Ecosystem Management and Conservation at Melbourne University, and works as a Project Support Officer at Territory Natural Resource Management. Her research and work is focusing on the movement ecology of cats and owner perceptions in remote Indigenous communities. She has previous experience working and volunteering in science communication and engagement, field ecology, and justice and empowerment programs. She has a strong interest in wildlife management and environmental communication.

Main Presenter Biography Glenn Pearson (CI) is a Noongar man who is Head of Aboriginal Research at Telethon Kids Institute. He is currently completing his PhD on cultural aspects of health research in Indigenous communities with a focus on qualitative and Indigenous methodologies. Glenn leads the Consultation and Governance component of STARFISH. Glenn has held many leadership roles in Indigenous research in community engagement, END RHD, ASAVI and National Centre for Indigenous Genomics.

Main Presenter Biography Dr Angela Pitts is a Senior Policy Analyst/Project Officer for NSW Health Aboriginal Environmental Health Unit working primarily on Housing for Health projects in Aboriginal communities throughout NSW. Angie holds a PhD from the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning, University of Sydney and a MA in Urban Planning from UCLA. Prior to working for NSW Health, Angie has worked closely with Aboriginal communities on various projects including comprehensive planning, community social plans and design of Aboriginal housing. She has extensive experience in urban and regional planning in Africa, the UK and the US

Main Presenter Biography Rahaney Poelina is a Nyikina woman from the Martuwarra- Fitzory River, in the Kimberley Region. Initially trained as an Aboriginal Health worker, where she spent over 10 years in Remote Aboriginal clinics, Rahaney now works in Environmental Health and continues to help our people by working with families to prevent them from getting sick in the first place. Rahaney is the Environmental Health Worker that leads the Kimberley Rheumatic Heart Disease Prevention Program for Nirrumbuk Environmental Health and Services (NEHS), in partnership with Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Service (KAMS). This 2-year program has been funded through NACCHO and will end in June 2025. As a mother of 2 children who have been diagnosed with RHD, her own personal experience helps to support families on their own RHD journey. Her motivation for preventing RHD stems from seeing her own family battle with the condition and knowing that no one should have to experience in a first world country.

Main Presenter Biography Kirstin is the course coordinator for the Graduate Diploma in Environmental Health Practice and Master of Environmental Health at Flinders Univesrity. She is an active member of Environmental Health Australia, the professional body representing environmental health practitioners in Australia. Her research is focussed on anything in the environment that affects human health, including methamphetamine contamination of houses from cooking or smoking meth, the gastrointestinal parasite Strongyloides stercoralis, the toxicity of tattoo inks and their removal products resulting from laser removal…food, air, soil, water, wastewater. She is interested in engaging with communities in environmental health issues.
