Toby Hannan

South Eastern Sydney Local Health - Public Health Unit

Hello, my name is Toby Hannan I am a Wiradjuri Man working on Bidjigal and Gadigal Land. I am employed by South Eastern Sydney Public Health Unit as an Environmental Health Officer Trainee under the Aboriginal Traineeship Program, since June 2021. I have had an interesting journey to this point coming up to a year within Health as an EHO. My job commenced the week that NSW went into lockdown with the Delta variant running its way through Sydney and the rest of Australia. Working in one of the most populated LHDs in NSW meant sink or swim. Within my role as a Trainee EHO, I also am the Aboriginal Support Officer for SESLHD, along with one of my colleagues from the Public Health Unit. This role provides Indigenous members of SESLHD a culturally supportive way to understanding requirements of isolation, social support referrals such as groceries, dropping off tests etc. This also required me to assist within the vaccine role out at the La Perouse LALC. I have recently participated in the Housing for Health program for my first Survey Fix, and look to help as many communities as possible. I am excited to discover what the dynamic world of Environmental Health over the next few years of my traineeship and beyond have to offer and help in community at any given chance
